Time flies when children are young, but as a parent, grandparent, or caregiver, there are simple things you can do every day that can have a lasting effect on your child's learning.
Explore the Tools in the Kit:Read quick facts, download resource guides, and more!
Ordinary moments such as getting dressed, going to school, or cleaning up offer chances to explore shapes, colors, language, and more. You can find fun opportunities for learning in your daily routine, even if you're short on time. Morning, noon, or night, each learning moment you create can be an exciting voyage of discovery — for both of you!
#1 Language Skills
Build language skills as you create fun ways to welcome each day. You might say, "Hello, terrific Tuesday" or "Good morning, silly Saturday." What other greetings can your child think of?
Help your child improve his powers of observation! On the way to school or day care, play a game of What Do You See? (I see a blue mailbox, a shiny car, a tall tree, etc.)
Discover patterns and sequencing in the kitchen. As you set the table, prepare each place setting in the same order and your child to repeat what you do. Pause every so often to ask, "What comes next?
At bedtime, wind down and build memories by talking about the day together. What did your child see and learn today?
#5 Explore More!
Keep the learning going! Happy, Healthy, Ready for School has tips on helping your child become an active, eager learner. Explore numbers, letters, and more with Math Is Everywhere and Word on the Street.
