Observing the natural world together is a great way to encourage children's curiosity and to help them discover and appreciate their environment. Talk with your child about the different types of weather you might see throughout the year. What is the weather like outside today?
Step 1: Things You'll Need
Collect the items from the materials list. Little Hands Tip: What is your child's favorite type of weather, and why? Does she love to splash in puddles on rainy days, or play in the park when it's sunny outside?
Step 2: Print It
Print out the calendar and weather elements printables.
Step 3: Colorful Calendar
Encourage your child to color and decorate the calendar printable with markers and crayons, leaving the month and date boxes blank. (You'll fill these in later.) Place the finished calendar inside the clear plastic report cover.
Step 4: Glue It
With a glue stick, attach the weather elements printable to a cereal box.
Step 5: Sun, Wind, Rain, Snow
After the glue has dried, carefully cut out the weather pieces with your child. Place the pieces into an envelope to store them.
Step 6: Watch the Weather!
Now you can observe and record the weather together! Each day, ask your child to choose a weather piece that matches what he sees outside. Use a little adhesive putty to attach the piece to your calendar, on the outside of the report cover. Your child can also use a dry erase marker to fill in the month, number the days, or write weather notes.
