        Once Upon a Time

Ask your child about his or her favorite story. What happens? Explain to your child that every story has a beginning, a middle, and an end. With this in mind, talk about other ways your child's favorite story could start or end. For example, what if a dancing elephant visited the three bears of instead of Goldilocks? Try mixing up different stories to see what silly tales you can tell!

        Step 1: Things You'll Need

Collect the items from the materials list.
Little Hands Tip: Do you have any favorite lines from stories? How about, "I'll huff and I'll puff . . . !" or "Let the wild rumpus begin!"

        Step 2: Print It Out

Print out the Color and Make a Story Sheet.

Step 3: Pick Your Story Parts

Read through each of the Color and Make a Story cards. Choose a beginning, middle, and an end for your silly story—the funnier, the better!

        Step 4: Add Color

After you've made your choices, color them in!

        Step 5: Make the Story

Carefully cut out each story card and put them in order.

        Step 6: Glue It

Take out three sheets of blank paper. Glue one story card to each sheet of paper.

        Step 7: Set the Stage

Every story has a setting. A setting is where the story happens. Create a setting for each part of your story. Your story can happen anywhere—a beach, a playground, or even the moon!
Little Hands Tip: Tell a story about yourself on the moon, in a forest, or in a castle.

        Step 8: Cover It

Make a cover for your story. When you're finished, make up a title and write it on the front cover. And don't forget to put the author's name on the cover—that's you!

        Step 9: Bind It

When each page of the story has a picture, staple the book together with two staples on the left side.

        Silly Story Time!

Next time it's story time, read the book together! Or, give the book as a gift to someone special!
