Matt's Biography

Matt Vogel has been performing various pigs, chickens, and monsters on Sesame Street since 1996.

He is the understudy for Caroll Spinney and performed Big Bird in Sesame Street's Journey to Ernie segments. He performs various characters on Elmo's World and played Baby Big Bird in the Sesame Beginnings DVD series.

Vogel has performed puppets for Noggin's Jack's Big Music Show (with David Rudman), Disney's Bear in the Big Blue House, MATHmatazz, Cartoon Network's Big Bag, Sesame English, HBO's OZ, The Puzzle Place, Oobi, Between the Lions, Blue's Room, and the Sesame Street motion picture The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland.

He has a B.F.A. in Theatre and has appeared in regional productions including Six Degrees of Separation, The Foreigner, and The Sum of Us. He was part of the puppet team (along with Martin P. Robinson) that performed Audrey II in the Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors.

Vogel co-owns Pratfall Productions with fellow Muppeteer Joey Mazzarino. Together they have produced the film noir puppet spoof Murder, He Squeaked, and created short films for Sesame Street, Sesame Street Home Video, Nick Jr.'s Curious Buddies. He is also front man for the band The Mighty Weaklings, who released the family-friendly CD You Can't Rock Sittin' Down in 2008.

Matt lives in New York City with his wife, Kelly, and his four children.
