Frank Oz became a major creative force behind the Muppets in 1963, after he caught Jim Henson's attention while still a high school student.
Besides influencing the characters' development, Oz performed Bert, Cookie Monster, and Grover for more than 30 years. Henson once described him as "probably the person most responsible for the Muppets being funny."
Oz has performed as a Muppeteer in dozens of movies, videos, and television specials, as well as hundreds of episodes of Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and other Jim Henson works. Oz is well known for performing the voice and puppet of Yoda in the Star Wars series, and he created the character's habit of reversing his words. Very clever, he is!
Oz is also an accomplished director; his credits include Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and What About Bob?
While Eric Jacobson and David Rudman have taken over the bulk of his character work, Oz still occasionally comes by Sesame Street to perform.
