You are here:
- When you're with Telly, things are bound to get crazy, chaotic, and stressful. Sometimes the only thing that can calm our neurotic friend down is his love of triangles. But rest assured, learning how to draw Telly will be stress-free and easy as 1,2,3 when you use these tips from a Sesame Street artist.
- Construction paper or computer paper
- Pencil
- Markers, colored pencils, or crayons
To draw Telly, you will need:
Get a "Head" Start
To start drawing Telly, hold your paper the long (landscape) way. In the center of the page, draw a pear shape for his head. Draw a dotted line vertically down the center of the pear. Then draw a dotted horizontal line across the pear, approximately a thumb and a half down from the top. These lines will be your reference for placing the eyes, nose, and mouth on Telly's head. You will erase the dotted line and the pear-shape later, so keep them light!
I Can't See
At the top of the pear-shape, on either side of the vertical line, draw a circle. These two circles will be Telly's eyes. They should be close, but not touching. Use your pinky finger to measure out the space between them.
I Smell...
For Telly's nose, draw a large, pear-shape. Make sure it is centered, with the dotted line running through the middle. The nose should slightly overlap the bottoms of Telly's eyes. (Keep in mind you will erase the overlaps later, so use a light stroke.)
Pupils Please
Next draw Telly's pupils. Place two round circles in the center of his eyes.
Form the Lashes
About halfway through the center of Telly's eyes, draw in eyelashes and eyelids.
The Top Lip
Right under Telly's nose, draw a wiggly line for the top of his mouth. His nose will overlap slightly with the top part of his mouth.
Make Him Smile
Draw a wide, U-shaped line for the bottom of his smile, and fill in his mouth. Remember to give Telly a tongue!
Give It Some Fluff
Give Telly wisps of fur around the edges of his head.
Clean It Up
Clean up your drawing! Erase the overlaps of Telly's eyes over his nose, the dotted line you drew in the beginning, and the pear-shape of his head. Add shading and fur-texture.
Make It Pretty
Color Telly with your crayons, markers, or colored pencils. You could even give him a background and draw some friends for him to play with!
