Visit a local apple orchard or the produce section of a grocery store to begin your fun-filled apple fest. Explain to your child, “Apples grow on trees. When they ripen, you can eat them.” Point out the many varieties of apples (e.g. McIntosh, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith and Red Delicious). As you observe the various types, talk about their differences (e.g. color and size) and similarities (e.g. stems). Ask your child how the different apples taste. Which type of apple is her favorite? Together, select different apples that you and your child would like to eat. Then, use them to create an “appletizing apple dip!”
