Herry Monster is a sweet, burly loner who likes to solve problems all by himself. He also loves to help those around him, but because he doesn’t realize his own strength, he usually causes more problems that he solves. He doesn’t mean any harm, though. The fuzzy monster has a genuine gentle side -- he’s a bull in a china shop with a big soft heart.
The children on Sesame Street really like Herry’s company, perhaps because the monster has the mental age of a six-year-old child. He shows the kids that you can accomplish more if you slow down, listen, and cooperate with other people.
Herry’s physical appearance has changed since he first appeared on Sesame Street in 1970. In the beginning, the monster's nose was covered with fur of a lighter blue than the rest of his body. In the middle of his second season, Herry received a non-furry blue nose, which in 1971 was finally replaced with his recognizable purple nose.
