Big Bird

Big Bird

Innocent, curious Big Bird is a dead ringer for a six-year-old child in an eight-foot-two-inch yellow-feathered body. Big Bird was the first Muppet to appear on Sesame Street, and from the very beginning, he has observed the world with wide-eyed enjoyment and asked a steady stream of questions at every step of the way.

Big Bird makes mistakes, as we all do, and he gets upset when things don’t work out as planned. But the persistent feathered friend always tries again, and is always eager to find a good solution to a problem. This tenacity is an important source of encouragement for young Sesame Street viewers.

Through his experiences, both happy and sad, Big Bird helps children understand a range of emotions. When his beloved friend Mr. Hooper died, he showed children an example of how to deal with a big loss. And when he enjoys a delicious birdseed milkshake, he shows us that life is full of fun and simple pleasures.
