| Former cast member Northern Calloway |
Funny, upbeat David was known for having a huge collection of hats and for being there to give the residents of Sesame Street good advice whenever they needed it. When beloved Mr. Hooper died, David was studying to become a lawyer. He decided to take over Hooper’s Store to help out his friends and the neighborhood.
Calloway joined Sesame Street during its fourth season in 1972 and was a cast member until 1989. Besides playing David, Northern Calloway was also the voice behind Same-Sound Brown, a Muppet with a great talent for rhyming words. Calloway had a long career performing on- and off-Broadway, starring in The Me Nobody Knows and Pippin, among others. He died in 1990.
