About the Character

The energetic Mr. Noodle, one of Elmo’s good friends, appears in the Elmo’s World segments. Since 1998, he has greeted Elmo’s adventurous ideas enthusiastically, but he sometimes gets confused and looks to Elmo and the children for help. But Elmo learns a great deal from Mr. Noodle, and has a lot of fun with him at the same time.

About the Actor

Bill Irwin has a broad range of theatre experience. He wrote a Broadway play called Largely New York, which received five Tony Award nominations and won Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and New York Dance and Performance Awards. He starred in and choreographed the hit play Fool Moon along with David Shiner. Irwin appeared with Steve Martin and Robin Williams in Waiting for Godot at Lincoln Center, as well as Texts for Nothing, directed by Joe Chaikin, at the Public Theatre. He won a 2005 Tony Award for his performance in Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

In addition to Sesame Street, Irwin’s television credits include Northern Exposure, Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show, and The Cosby Show. In 1996, he directed, choreographed, and starred in the closing ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta.

Irwin has also acted in feature films, including Love Conquers All!, Igby Goes Down, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), My Blue Heaven, and Popeye.
